Cast: Frank Langella, Susan Sarandon, James Marsden, Liv Tyler, Peter Sarsgaard, Jeremy Sisto, Jeremy Strong ROBOT & FRANK, the feature film debut of commercial director Jake Schreier, was a festival favorite at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival where it world premiered and was co-winner of the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize. Set in the near future, Frank, a retired cat burglar, has two grown kids who are concerned he can no longer live alone. They are tempted to place him in a nursing home until Frank’s son chooses a different option: against the old man’s wishes, he buys Frank a walking, talking humanoid robot programmed to improve his physical and mental health. What follows is an often hilarious and somewhat heartbreaking story about finding friends and family in the most unexpected places. Shehu, a Nigerian cab driver who’s had less than stellar luck with women, recently had the misfortunate of picking up a woman who wasn’t one at all. Out of frustration, Shehu vows to never touch another American woman again. He travels home to Nigeria to find a wife and hang up his bachelor ways. His plan was to find a nurse so she can get certified in the USA and make enough money for him to stay home and drink beer if he chooses. When Shehu returns to the USA with a new wife and a fresh outlook on life, he didn’t count on his new wife learning ways of the African American woman. Now his wife has embraced her new-found identity, and Shehu is stuck trying to figure it all out.

THE CAREGIVERS: Educational Film Trailer

An educational film about family caregiving for loved ones with an aggressive form of brain cancer. The film follows patients and families as they struggle through an unmapped course within complex medical systems. It is meant to raise awareness of the array of challenges faced as loved ones take on the role of care providers. This film was produced by Andy Wilson of award-winning production company Open Eye Pictures in conjunction with the UCSF Osher Center.
